"Architectural Model Making"

Workshop at Primeasia University

Architectural model making is a crucial skill for students of architecture, enabling them to better understand the design process and effectively present their ideas. To enhance this skill, a two-day workshop on "Architectural Model Making" was organized at Primeasia University, Banani, Bangladesh on 9th and 10th July. The workshop aimed to introduce various model making techniques, promote precision and aesthetics, and provide hands-on experience through practical exercises.

Day 1: The workshop commenced with an interactive presentation and discussion session led by Architect Fawzia Bhuiyan. During this session, participants were introduced to different model making techniques and materials commonly used in the field of architecture. The presentation explored the significance of model making in the design process and its role in effective presentations.

As a warm-up exercise, participants engaged in small tasks to improve their precision, perfection, and aesthetic sense in creating architectural models. These activities aimed to prepare them for the main model-making challenge that lay ahead.

Day 2: On the second day, participants were divided into groups and tasked with creating architectural scale models of four remarkable pieces of architecture by renowned architects from different periods and contexts. The selected architectural masterpieces were: Villa Savoye - Le Corbusier, Farnsworth House - Mies Van Der Rohe, Majharul Islam Residence - Majhharul Islam, Meti School - Anna Heringer.Throughout the day, participants worked collaboratively to develop these architectural models. They demonstrated innovative approaches and efficiently utilized the techniques learned during the workshop.

At the conclusion of the workshop, a discussion session was held, enabling participants to share their experiences and insights gained during the two-day event. This lateral learning approach facilitated further understanding and appreciation of the art of model making.

The closing ceremony was graced by esteemed guests, including Prof. Dr. Md. Nurunnabi Mollah, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Primeasia University, Brig Gen Kazi A.S.M Arif, afwc, psc (Retd), Honorable Registrar, and Sazzadur Rasheed, Chairman, Department of Architecture.
