A Compact Workshop on Architectural Model Making

The workshop aimed to explore model making as a potent tool for architectural design and provided participants with opportunities to experiment with various materials and fostered collaborative efforts in expressing diverse ideas.
The primary objective of the workshop was to explore architectural model making as a creative design tool and encourage lateral learning among participants. Through interactive and participatory sessions, the workshop sought to introduce different ideas about architectural design, emphasizing small spaces. The interactive and participatory format of the workshop encouraged participants to actively engage in discussions, brainstorming, and hands-on model making. This approach not only enhanced their design skills but also instilled a sense of ownership and pride in their work. Brigadier General Salazar Hossain, Head of the Department of Architecture at MIST, who also delivered an inspiring closing speech, commending the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to architectural excellence. The workshop was conducted by two Architects: Z. A. Saleh Zebermai & Saad bin Mustofa. Workshop was arranged by: Sabbir Ahmed & Manjima Anannya, Department of Architecture, MIST.

Day 1:
Introduction to Architectural Model Making
The workshop commenced with an introductory session that provided participants with an overview of architectural model making. Expert facilitators explained the importance of models in the design process, illustrating how they serve as effective tools for visualizing and communicating ideas. Participants were introduced to various model-making techniques and were encouraged to experiment with basic materials to create their initial design prototypes.
Day 2:
Emphasizing Small Spaces in Architectural Design
On the second day, the focus shifted to small spaces in architectural design. Renowned architects and designers delivered insightful presentations, showcasing exemplary projects that emphasized the efficient use of limited space. Participants engaged in group discussions and hands-on exercises, exploring innovative approaches to optimize small spaces without compromising functionality or aesthetics.
Day 3:
Harnessing Creativity through Model Making
The final day of the workshop was dedicated to unlocking creativity through architectural model making. Participants were challenged to break conventional design boundaries and push their creative limits. Interactive workshops, led by experienced design mentors, encouraged attendees to express their unique design ideas through model creation. Emphasis was placed on iterative processes, encouraging participants to refine and evolve their designs based on feedback and self-reflection.
